Nice pictures, but the names of the fish/coral are not one the page of the picture. Liked the helpful hints about the area beaches and restaurants.
Strong current and winds that day. But the capt. Was awesome and made it to the reef for great fun
We have been to St Croix a few times, but have never really known exactly where to go for good snorkeling. This is made with what seems to be nice quality paper and the photography is very good. I like that it recommends restaurants in the area. We have always just rolled the dice when eating at new places on the island. I would recommend this if you are planning a trip to St Croix.
I expected more information about each site as to where to snorkel - left - right - now far out, etc. I don't feel it is really a snorkel guide but a picture book of the typical tropical fish found in the Caribbean. So, I was a little disappointed as I was hoping to use it as an indepth guide for our upcoming trip. So, to me it will be my trip souvenir instead.
LOVED this book! So simple and filled with all the information you could possibly need for a fun-filled vacation. Beautiful pictures and lots of tips on what to do and not to do!
Tons of color photos along with complete snorkeling information for each featured beach. I like that each beach section is color coded and is marked on the map locator in the front of the book which helps locate the approx spot on the island. I can truefuly say that my pictures just don't turn out as good as the ones in the book. This book is true to what you can see when snorkeling off shore on St. Croix. The fish and coral identification section of the book is helpful in identifying what I've seen any given day. I also like the restaurants listed in the back... the photos make me hungry. St. Croix is by far my favorite place to visit!!!!
I've been to St. Croix a few times and snorkeled at many of the spots in this book. I remember Tamarind Reef, Cane Bay, and Buck Island. The book shows a person exactly what they will see when one snorkels in St. Croix, which includes big sea turtles, brain coral, wicked sea urchins, and neon colored fish the pictures in the book don't (and really can't) lie. The underwater pictures in the book are pretty incredible. The book also includes a general map of the snorkeling locations, a description of the locations, and a brief restaurant guide for some eating locations on St. Croix.
The book focuses on the narrow topic of snorkeling on St. Croix rather than a broad review of the island in general, and it is the only book I've come across on that performs this narrow focus. St Croix is a really interesting place to visit, and one must spend some time snorkeling to get the full experience. Even traveling to snorkeling locations on St. Croix is an experience the hills and tropical forests are surreal and dreamlike, much like the underwater Caribbean shown in this book. This book provides great direction for snorkeling on St. Croix, and I recommend it to anybody who wants to snorkel on St. Croix.
